Motorists are urged to avoid Far East Bank Drive, in Alexandra, Johannesburg.
Communities have burnt tires and closed the road, following the murder of a learner from the Eastbank High School.
Other protesters are angry about having no electricity.
Traffic officers and the police are on site.
The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police (JMPD) said a group of 500 people calling themselves the “march and march” will walk, from 9am until after 3pm on Wednesday.
Protesters met at the corner of Prospect Road and Tudhope Avenue in Berea, and are expected to proceed to Loveday Street, to the Provincial Legislature.
