The N1 between Richmond and Hanover was reopened, after it was closed earlier on Sunday, following a spill of hazardous-material.

The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited (SANRAL) confirmed the spill came from an overturned road tanker.

Motorists were asked to avoid the affected section of the N1 and to make use of the designated alternative routes, during the clean up.

Emile Du Preez, SANRAL’s Provincial Head for the Northern Cape Province, said “motorists are advised to plan their journeys, accordingly, allow additional travelling time and exercise caution when approaching the affected area.”
