The Department Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) launched an Agri tech project in Westridge, Mitchells Plain, last week.
In a statement, the DBSA, said although the project has started off with the planting of an orchard, it is expected to evolve into a hub, to develop climate-smart agritech solutions.
Lunga Schoeman, CSI Programme Manager at DBSA, said “agritech is a global trend, and this initiative not only opens new pathways for South African youth into the Fourth Industrial Revolution, but also addresses immediate and long-term food security needs.”
Schoeman also said “our strategic partners, Rlabs and Food & Trees for Africa, who run ECD food gardens for our programmes, have been instrumental in making this launch possible.”
DBSA said its partnership with RLabs, has unlocked some 1000 opportunities, for about 10 000 young people.
