This emerged at the Solar & Storage Live & The Future Energy Show Africa 2024, organized by Terrapinn, at Gallagher Estate, in Midrand, this week.

Developers are still applying for grid access, Silas Zimu, Adviser to the Minister of Electricity in the Presidency, said at the event.

Eskom’s grid is managed by the Grid Access Unit (GAU).
Its work is to manage and provide grid access to Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The GAU ensures there is transparency to guarantee non-discriminatory access to the grid as well as other operational matters for IPPs and Generators, such as the pricing policy, network contracts, operating agreements, connection and related processes.

The National Transmission Company (NTC) was licensed as the national provider of transmission services. Independent transmission network service providers (TNSP’s) are licensed, in accordance with current policy, only for specific requirements such as facilitating cross-border trade.
