The Emfuleni Local Municipality, the Vaal River City and the Cradle of Human Rights have dispelled reports of the presence of cholera in the Vaal River.
In a joint notice to residents, the Municipality said sites mentioned in a viral notice, are in the North West and the Northern Cape.
The notice issued via social media by activists is titled “Vaal Residents to boil water following presence of cholera in the Vaal River.”
The Municipality said it doesn’t want to hear about the notice that went viral on social media.
“Metsi a Lekoa, constantly exercises necessary caution each month, by collecting 20 water samples across the Municipality, for lab testing. This is to ensure that we are informed about the latest microbiological status of water.”
The Municipality went on to say that there is no cause for concern regarding cholera in Emfuleni, and that residents would be notified of any outbreak.
