A rare sighting of a Blanket Octopus this weekend, by Drone Fanatics SA in Mossel Bay, provides a glimpse of the mystery and beauty of the ocean.
Male Blanket Octopus are relatively smaller than females, measured at just 2.4 cm. However, females can grow up to 2 meters long.
This type of Octopus is found in both subtropical and tropical oceans, living amongst the coral reefs.
It is carnivorous, with a diet that consists mainly of molluscs and smaller fish.
They use a tentacle ripped from toxic jellyfish as a weapon to hunt prey.
Predators are the blue shark, tuna, and the billfish.
