City Power said it has received a total of 2,814 open calls logged by customers, across Johannesburg, as inclement weather sweeps across the City, into Saturday.
About 577 calls were made from the inner City, 572 in Randburg, Roodepoort -452; and Lenasia – 312.
City Power’s Isaac Mangena, said “we would like to advise customers that current inclement weather conditions may impact response and repair times across several areas. As a result, we appeal to customers to use electricity sparingly where possible. The power system remains constrained, and high electricity demand during peak periods places strain on already stressed infrastructure, increasing the risk of overloading, trips, and unplanned outages.”
He also said restoration efforts have already yielded positive results in several areas, including the Roodepoort SDC, the Ruimsig Switching Station, Christiaan De Wet Substation and JG Strydom Switching Station, affecting customers in Weltevreden Park.
Ongoing work is at the Tshepisong Switching Station, affecting Tshepisong on Lines A and D; Manufacta Switching Station, affecting Roodepoort West and nearby communities; and Fleurhof Substation, affecting customers in Camel Thorn, Bird Lane, Oak Street, and surrounding areas.

In Alexandra, approximately 48% of power supply has been restored following faults at Vasco Da Gama Switching Station.
A trip of the Cleveland Substation, caused an outage in Denver, Benrose, parts of Cleveland, and surrounding areas due to network overloading.
Other outages are at the Jeppe East Distributor, affecting Kruger Street, Main Reef Road, Denver, and nearby streets; Orchards Substation, affecting Orchards, The Gardens, and Orange Grove; Observatory Substation, Bez Valley Distributor, affecting Bez Valley, Kensington, and Dewetshof; as well as Newtown Junction Distributor, affecting parts of Newtown and surrounding areas, Ennerdale Substation, affecting customers in Ennerdale Extension 9 and Lawley 1; Gold Dev Switching Station, affecting Freedom Park East; Lunar Substation, affecting Lenasia South Extension 4 and Univille; Soweto Substation, affecting Pimville Zone 9; Nancefield Substation, Lenasia Extensions 3, 5, and 9, as well as surrounding areas.
Mangena said operators are onsite working to restore power supply at Cresta Substation, Danie Distributor, which tripped earlier due to overcurrent, affecting customers in Randpark Ridge, Cresta, Windsor, Aldara Park, Kelland, Darrenwood, and surrounding areas.
