Residents supplied by the Toti Water Works, were urged to first boil water for a minute, before drinking, for the next 5 days.
The eThekwini Municipality said test results of water from the plant, is clear of any contamination and was compliant with quality standards for potable water (SANS).
In addition Andre Beetge, Councillor of the area, cautioned residents last Saturday, to conserve water, noting the Toti Water Works was running empty, following a heatwave in the City, then.
“Municipal reservoir water levels are dropping drastically. The municipality is closing reservoir outlets in an attempt to reduce the risk of a total systems collapse that would take an extended time to recover” he wrote on social media platforms.
But users remain concerned.
Chris Grosch, a resident of the area said “the small public ablution facility on the south side of Toti main beach,has broken cisterns, with pour out water 24/7. ..”
Grosch also said the leak had been there for a long time.
Getty Gouws, another resident, said “half of Toti don’t even drink the tap water anymore.”
Affected areas are Lewis Drive, Amanzimtoti CBD, Athlone Park, Kingsway Hospital, Almond, Winklespruit, Warner Beach, Illovo Glen, Lower Illovo, Doonside, Launceston, Panorama Park, Lovu A, B & C, Bhekulwandle, Msarweni, KwaMakhutha, Mkhazini, eMasomini, Adams Sheleni, Sunnyside Park, Mkhazini, Lovu 1 & Phase 3, Lovu Landfill and Inkwali.
