The San Kraal Wind Plant, near Middleburg, between the Eastern and Northern Cape, exported its first kW from wind turbine SK 15, on Wednesday this week.

It has three wind farms – Phezukomoya, San Kraal and Coleskop, each with installed capacities of 140 MW, totalling 420MW. 

It is constructed by a consortium led by EDF power solutions, local BEE partners, H1 Holdings, Gibb-Crede and a local community trust, and is part of Round 5 of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme.

The Koruson 1 construction team, took to social media, to share this milestone.

Four other turbines were commissioned, on the same day as well, including SK15, SK4, SK2 and SK8.

The plant is officially exporting into the grid.

All 22 wind turbines are expected to achieve Grid Code Compliance for San Kraal by the end of October and COD early November 2025.
