Degradation of habitat is driving SA’s rarest wild flower to extinction. If land use patterns stay the same, we could soon kiss the Geranium goodbye in the wild.

Geranium or Storksbill, whose scientific name is Pelargonium heterophyllum, is highly threatened by wheat cultivation, vineyards and urban expansion.

This has been the case for the
last 90 years. According to information on the South African National Biodiversity
Institute (SANBI), this species continues to decline due to ongoing habitat loss.
It is currently only found in Darling, in the Western Cape.
