Isaac Ruiters, Mayor of Sol Plaatjie, said the shutdown planned for Monday, the 14th July 2025, by the Kimberley Action Group (KAC), should be within the confines of the law.
Therefore, no destruction to property, as experienced in 2018.
Ruiters also responded to some of the Group’s concerns raised during the week.
He also said “there is no breakdown in governance, and council is performing its duties.”
Ruiters said “what disturbs us is the posturing towards co-governance through the call for the establishment of a structure or committee, which will preoccupy itself with the business of the Municipality or its governance issues.”
He also said the Municipality believed in an open door policy, and have held several meetings with the KAC.
He also said he does not dispute allegations of corruption, nepotism, incompetence and poor service delivery.
In addition the Municipality consulted residents extensively, on its Growth and Development Strategy, and recently met with the Northern Cape Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NOCCI) on Thursday.
