The 22 -year old who was driving the scholar transport that crashed in Vanderbijlpark on Monday, was arrested.
About 12 learners died as a result. Eleven were identified.
Panyaza Lesufi, Gauteng’s Premier, briefed the media on Tuesday afternoon about the details of the tragedy.
There were three drivers involved- 2 in a truck and 1 in a taxi, who were all hospitalised and discharged.
Police found the taxi driver’s PDP license, required for transporting groups of people, expired last November.
Matome Chiloane, Gauteng MEC for Education and Siviwe Gwarube, the Minister of Basic Education, visited bereaved families.
They paid their respects to the Sefatsa family, who lost two learners, and the Vinger family, who lost a 6-year-old, the youngest learner onboard the taxi.
The taxi driver faces 12 counts of culpable homicide and charges of reckless and negligent driving.
