Tropical Storm “Domeng” is expected to intensify into a typhoon, when it lands in the Philippine Sea, east of northern Luzon.
It is expected to impact the Japanese islands severely.
The storm also known globally as “Jangmi” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 12:30 am on Friday, May 29.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the cyclone has wind speed of 75 km/h and gusts of up to 90 km/h.
The system will also bring heavy rains to several areas – Palawan, Western Visayas, the Negros Island Region, the Zamboanga Peninsula, SOCCSKSARGEN, and the BARMM region.
Residents in these areas were urged to prepare for potential flash floods and landslides.
The Phillipine Typhoon Forecasting Centre said “we are not expecting landfall over the Phillipines, and we are not expecting direct effects from Domeng.”
Only a low pressure system is expected over Palawan over the weekend, to affect the Greater Manila Area.
