High consumption of water in Tshwane could leave consumers with no water this Summer.
The City of Tshwane said in a statement on Sunday, its reservoirs and towers are plummeting.
“The demand in most areas, is exceeding what the city can provide” said the City of Tshwane’s statement.
This has led to overabstraction of water from Rand Water to supply an estimated 800 million litres a day to residents.
Only 662 million litres per day can be pumped, according to a license agreement between the City and Rand Water.
The City also said this strain on water resources, calls for residents to use water wisely. In addition, the City is urging all its residents, spanning across 7 regions, to report water leaks and to be vigilant of vandalism of water infrastructure.
Here are water consuming reservoirs:
Mooikloof Ridge Pumping station
Carina Street, Mabopane and Atteridgeville, Soshanguve L Reservoir, Mabopane main reservoir, Akasia Reservoir, Constantia Reservoir and Lotus Reservoir.
The City announced water restrictions level 1 last month.
According to a bylaw, no watering or irrigation of gardens with a hose or sprinkler system is allowed between 06am and 6pm.
No using a hosepipe to clean driveways or patios.
No washing of vehicles with a hose.
No filling up of swimming pools or water features.
