The United Kingdom (UK) has pledged over $1,8 billion towards South Africa’s energy transition.
This makes the country the second largest international contributor, towards the transition.
Alexandra Abrahams, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy, met a delegation led by the British High Commissioner to South Africa on Thursday.
It emerged that there are currently 70 registered projects supported by the UK, valued at $6,92 billion.
Of these, 41 were completed and 29 are being implemented.
Abrahams said “the South African Government remains committed to deepening its partnership with the United Kingdom in advancing a just and economically inclusive energy transition. Its success will depend equally on sustained collaboration with South African business, organised labour and communities, so that the transition creates jobs, expands opportunity and delivers tangible local benefits.”
