A Water Investment Summit is well underway in Cape Town, having started on Wednesday morning, until Friday, 15 August 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

The Summit is organised by the African Union (AU), the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD) and the AU-AIP International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa.

It aims to close Africa’s US$30 billion annual water investment gap by bringing together African Heads of State, G20 representatives, Global investors, ministers, private sector lead development institutions.

President Cyril Ramaphosa said at the start of the event, on Wednesday, South Africa is proud to be a founding member of this Panel and to answer the call to host this Africa Water Investment Summit in the context of its G20 Presidency.

He also said the Summit will showcase a pipeline of 80 priority water investment projects from 38 countries.

Some outcomes of the Summit are mobilising political momentum, financial capital, and institutional partnerships needed to deliver climate-resilient water and sanitation.

During the two days, delegates will participate in high-level dialogues, contribute to a Declaration on Water Investments that will influence both continental and global development agendas-including preparations for the 2026 UN Water Conference.
