uMngeni-uThukela Water Board will provide an additional 30 water tankers to add to eThekwini Municipality’s fleet of tankers, as an emergency plan to water stressed areas.
This, as algae continues to clogg up filters of the Nagle-Albert Falls Water Treatment Works.
As a result, the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works has been treating lower than normal volumes of water.
This has resulted in restricted water supply to some areas in the North, far West and South of eThekwini, which receive their bulk water supply from the Durban Heights Water Treatment Works.
In a statement, the Water Board said water tankers would deliver water twice a day to communities, in the morning and the evening.
The situation is expected to last about a week, to allow reservoirs to recoup.
