Durbanites are cautioned to take necessary precautions, including staying indoors where possible.
This is after the Weather Service (SAWS) warned against strong winds, propelled by a surface high pressure system.
As a result, gusts are expected at between 50km/h to 90km/h, along the coast, between Port Edward and Cape Vidal.
Similarly, gale force winds are expected to push up swells to 5,5 meters high, between Algoa Bay and Port Edward, in the Eastern Cape, on Saturday.
The eThekwini Municipality has urged residents to remain vigilant and take proactive safety measures, because some transport routes and travel services may also be affected by the wind.
The City also said its Disaster Management Directorate and emergency services, are on high alert.
It is still unclear if some of the games, part of the eThekwini Grand Finale will be postponed due to adverse weather. Outdoor tournaments scheduled for Saturday include golf, cricket and swimming.
