Your perceptions on climate change

Like it or not, the sea level is rising, there are more fire risks than there were years ago. The frequency and intensity of extreme weather events has become the norm, including floods, droughts, and storm surges. 
Climate change is our reality whether our perceptions align or not.

But an analysis of responses by the University of Witwatersrand ‘s Nicole De Wet-Billings, revealed that 77.62% of respondents in a survey conducted, had negative attitudes towards the environment and 22.37% had positive attitudes. The survey results reveal South Africans would rather see efforts go into tackling other challenges – even though climate change will intensify those challenges.

Are South Africans aware of climate change? A survey undertaken by Afrobarometer suggests they are, six in 10 (amounting to about 62%) say it is making life “somewhat worse” (30%) or “much worse” (32%).
