A 12-year-old child was swept away by floods in Taung. 

Authorities said this occurred on Sunday afternoon, while the girl was playing with other children, around 17:30.

Wessels Morweng, the MEC for the North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management,  said police divers were called and later discovered her lifeless body. 

Heavy rains in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District caused widespread flooding leading to the closure of the N14 between Vryburg and Kuruman. 

The N18 between Vryburg and Taung, is now open and drivable. 

Affected areas are mostly villages- Kgomotso, Madithamaga, Ga-Taote, Thota-ya-Tau, Spitskop, Mammutla, Kameelput, Choseng, Mokasa, Mokgareng, Matlapaneng, Qho!, Choseng, Vaaltyn, Tamasikwa and Takaneng.

Submerged bridges, include the Mokgareng, on the road between Taung and Reivilo and Shaleng village.
