The body of a missing learner who disappeared at New Beach in Durban, on Friday, was recovered on Monday, South of Addington Beach.

The learner was among 18, who were caught in difficulty while swimming at New Beach on Saturday afternoon. 

Off-duty lifeguards from Wedge Beach, assisted in rescuing the group. 

The City said on Monday, the search, began on Sunday morning at 08am,  made up of the Metro Police, SAPS, a Transnet helicopter, and the National Sea Rescue Institute.

Cyril Xaba, Mayor of eThekwini, cautioned the public against swimming at non-bathing beaches, especially during late hours, when lifeguards are off duty.
