An investigation conducted by authorities in Cape Town, is yet to determine the type of oil spilt between Hout Bay and Kommetjie, in Cape Town last week.
Sea bird rescue organization, SANCCOB, said it responded to oil-affected African penguins in Hout Bay on the 22 January 2025.
About 19 oiled African Penguins were admitted at SANCCOB and are currently undergoing treatment.
Robyn Knowles of SANCCOB, said it is important to note that although the oil resembles diesel and has a strong smell, tests are still being done to determine what kind of oil it is.
The quantity of the substance is also unknown.
The source of the oil spill is also unknown.
