Three men were sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment for abalone poaching, on Thursday, 24 July 2025, at the Kimberley Regional Court.

The three are Yanhul Yang (34),  Zhang  Shuicai (24) and Jinxiang Chen (60).

They were convicted for the Contravention of the Living Marine Resources Act, Act 18 of 1998. 

Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Thebe, said in a statement, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) Provincial Organised Crime investigation unit, headed to Olierivier Farm, Douglas, upon receiving a tip off.

While searching premises, they found 8,136 units of abalone valued at R 1 970 829.75, gas burners, gas bottles, and fans.
