Four people died in a mudslide caused by a cloud burst, in Uttarakhand, Northern India, on Wednesday, the 5th of August.

Dozens are still missing, including members of the Indian army. 

Some homes are buried in mud, as search and rescue efforts continue in extremely windy and wet conditions.

The Global Disaster Risk Reduction, said this tragic event highlights the urgent need for early warning systems, climate-resilient infrastructure and enhanced disaster preparedness.

Save the Children International, said in a statement, this year’s monsoon season in Asia, has swept across the Region, in China, Pakistan, Thailand, Laos and the Philippines, where storms and extreme floods, have killed more than130 children.

Arshad Malik, Asia Regional Director, Save the Children International, said “monsoon floods in Asia are a yearly occurrence, but the scale and intensity of this year’s flooding in multiple countries across the region is extremely worrying. This should be a wake-up call for all of us, including decision makers across the region. We live in an interconnected world and climate change and weather extremities will affect us all.”
