Authorities are visiting the Umsobomvu Wind Farm, in the Eastern Cape.
The visit is to celebrate the partial completion of the construction of the Koruson 2 cluster project.
Once completed, some 520 Megawatts (MW), will be delivered by the project, located at the border of the Eastern and Northern Cape.
Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane, Premier of the Eastern Cape, alongside Minister of Electricity -Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, and Northern Cape Premier- Dr Zamani Saul , are among those at the farm on Friday.
The project is developed by a consortium led by EDF power solutions, H1 Holdings, Gibb-Crede, and a local community trust, the Koruson 1 project.
The development of the phase was awarded under Round 5 of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Program (REIPPPP), back in 2021.
The consortium entered into a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the public grid operator.
The final project in the cluster, Hartebeesthoek Wind, is expected to come online in June 2026, to supply more than 10 Anglo American mining sites.
