A delegation comprising of Alan Winde, the Premier of the Western Cape and MECs -Anton Bredell and Tersius Simmers, visited the Cederberg Municipality.

Azrial Scheepers, Mayor of the area, led his team in briefing technical experts at Clanwilliam Dam.

The briefing was on the impact of storms and floods on Clanwilliam residents.

Moreover, the team shared information about significant connecting roads, including the R303 connecting Citrusdal to the N7.

The visit focused on infrastructure upgrades and flood management strategies to strengthen regional resilience.

Simmers said several bridges and roads across the West Coast District Municipality were damaged by the floods.

“The damage is extensive and I kindly request all Western Cape residents to please be patient while we assess damaged roads and plan for repair work. I also urge all road users to adhere to road signs and avoid using roads that are closed. Your safety comes first!” he said.

Winde said while the storm may be over, work is far from over.

About eighteen roads remain closed in the West Coast, including Matjies River, Niewoudts Pass, Bosbou Road, Urionskraal, Uitspankraal, Uitvlug, Doornboom, Sonkwasdrift, Mieliefontein, Vredenburg landfill, Ou Kaapse, Uitkyk Pass, Koekenaap, Lutzville, Vredendal to Vanrhynsdorp and Klawer bridge over Olifants River.
