The Energy One Stop Shop (EOSS) launched by Ebrahim Patel, Minister of Trade and Industry, is meant to avail more renewable energy to the grid through the refocus of resources.
A statement from the Department said “the Energy One Stop Shop was developed to address a key constraint that energy developers face: Namely that the many regulatory and other measures that need to be complied with, can and do slow down approval of energy supply projects.”
According to Patel, the initiative will accelerate private-sector investment in electricity generation.
This happens at a time when elsewhere in the country, more than 150 Chief Executive Officers (CEO), signed a pledge to assist Government efforts to better the country. Efforts include CEO teams in energy and crime prevention measures.
Talking about more support to the private sector, Patel said “we have seen that having a dedicated resource available to the private sector, to address blockages, has worked in other parts of the economy.”
Phase 1 of 4 is now readily available, a portal called EOSS with dedicated personnel, a website for energy projects and an itinerary indicating project milestones.
Phase two, has a focus on Provincial and Local Government spheres.
Phase three, will yield an electronic application process for feedback.
Phase four, is a fully fledged system able to address both immediate blockages and implementing reform programs.
