Teams from Cape Nature cleared over 15,194 invasive pine trees, in just 3 days.
Earlier in May, Cape Nature announced a partnership with the HeliHack team, to clear a remote and rugged region in the Western Cape -the Boosmansbos Wilderness Area.
In a blog, Cape Nature said every tree removed has amounted to increased water flow into the Duivenhoks Dam, which supports about 15,000+ residents.
Boosmansbos forms part of an essential water catchment area to the the Langeberg Area, and to communities across the Southern Cape.
This action has also reduced the risk of wildfire, posed by alien invasive plants.
A bonus for conservation efforts, is the healthier and restored ecosystems in a World Heritage Site, as a result of alien clearing.
“At CapeNature, protecting our natural landscapes goes far beyond preserving its beauty. It’s about safeguarding the natural systems our communities rely on – from clean water to rich biodiversity, and climate resilience – these ecosystems are essential to our shared future.”
