About 5,200 trees were planted along streets and communal spaces in Alexandra and Lombardy East.

An additional 17,500 trees were distributed for planting, in Alexandra, Lawley, Vlakfontein, and Kanana Park.

This was shared by the Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ), this week, as the final tree distribution, drew to a close for the first planting season of the Scaling Urban Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for Climate Adaptation in Sub-Saharan Africa (SUNCASA) Project.

The project, in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI), is 3-years long, aiming to benefit 2,2 million people, living in high-flood risk areas, in Ethiopia, Rwanda and South Africa.

It is funded by the Global Affairs Canada in partnership with the Climate program and is delivered by IISD and the World Resources Institute.

JCPZ said at a planting ceremony in Kanana Park’s Region G, this week, the project was enabled by support from the Johannesburg Inner City Partnership (JICP) and the City of Johannesburg’s Environment and Infrastructure Services.
