If you are familiar with Rand Water’s weekly consumption graphs, you know to watch the blue line does not cross over the red.

The red line in Rand Water’s graphs, points to consumption agreements between Metros and Rand Water.

The blue line shows water used by Metros on a weekly basis.

When the blue line falls below the red line, it means the Metro is managing its water consumption effectively within the water use licence agreement with Rand Water.

However, when the blue line is above the red line, it means the Metro is consuming more water than agreed upon with Rand Water.

This afternoon, a few hours before planned maintenance of water infrastructure, kicks in, Rand Water published its graphs, showing consumption patterns are high for 3 big Metros, including Johannesburg Water, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni.

The maintenance work meant to last for just under a month, is expected to interrupt supply in most areas of Johannesburg.
Joburg Water said in a notice to residents, a 50% cut in supply is to be expected from tomorrow until the 24th June 2024.
Areas supplied by the Swartkopies Booster Station and Daleside booster station will be affected.

It also committed to provide water to stationary tankers in critical areas like hospitals, clinics, old age homes, schools, and police stations.
