An earthquake measuring M7,2 struck Papua New Guinea in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Meteorologists say the quake triggered the possibility of a tsunami.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, the exact location where the quake struck is the Island of New Britain, where a half a million people live.
A number of aftershocks have followed, including eight above M5.0.

A warning against a looming Tsunami was issued by authorities. It is expected to have a wave height of 1-3 meters above tide level.

A similar warning was also issued of a wave height of less than 0.3 meters above the tide level, for the coasts of Solomon Islands.
