Emergency services in Johannesburg are on high alert, following a warning against severe thunderstorm in the Province.

Robert Mulaudzi, Spokesperson of Emergency Services in Johannesburg, said teams will work overnight to monitor all regions of the City, together with the Aquatic Rescue Unit, which is a Specialized Team which responds to all water related Emergencies.

The South African Weather Service issued a Yellow level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms to at least 6 provinces, on Tuesday.

Affected areas are the central parts of Limpopo, (morning), western parts of North West, northern and central parts of the Free State, southern parts of Gauteng and Mpumalanga as well as the north-western parts of KwaZulu Natal. 

 Low lying areas, remain vulnerable to flash floods, as a result, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while driving and to avoid crossing flooded roads and low lying bridges.

It’s already raining in some areas, such as George, the North West and Mpumalanga.

A resident in George, said she is grateful for  40 mm of rain during October 25 and 26 in Denneoord George.

Another said there was about 12mm measured in Oudtshoorn, which was the very first rain this month.
