The Gauteng Provincial Disaster Management Centre handed over two medium pump rescue appliances (Fire Engines) and three grass fire response units to Emfuleni Local Municipality, today, Wednesday, the 08th May 2025.

This is during Gauteng’s fire season, which began in April and ends in 18 weeks.

Although Gauteng has structural fires in informal settlements, eMfuleni has had a fair share in recent years, such as in Vanderbijlpark and Sebokeng’s underground coal blazes.

Other reports indicate fire brigades are under pressure in eMfuleni and Tshwane.

Speaking at the event, Panyaza Lesufi, Premier of Gauteng, said “this is a city that I believe has potential, I will continue to give support, the municipality must lead us to resolve the issues we need to attend to.”

Lesufi also said “today we put the Gauteng Safety MoU into action in Emfuleni, united policing, visible service delivery, and community engagement. One Gauteng. One plan. One mission.”
