The Steenbras Hydro Pumped Storage Scheme is scheduled to receive a face-lift to the value of R107 million, the City of Cape Town said in a statement.
“This will ensure that Cape Town’s faithful Steenbras Hydro Pumped Storage Scheme is refurbished and well-maintained to continue load-shedding protection” the City said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Energy, Councillor Beverley van Reenen.
The Steenbras power station has been in existence since 1979, generating about 180 Megawatts of hydropower.
Construction is expected to last for 108 months from the start date of the 15th February 2024 .
