Two flare ups were reported on Thursday, at the base of the fire in the Hemel and Aarde Valley and at Tekili Farm, with a third line still smouldering near Escape Farm.
Dean O’Neill, Municipal Manager of Overstrand Municipality said in an update on Friday, the Overstrand Fire & Rescue personnel and Working On Fire ground crew are on site.
He said daytime operations include the deployment of Working on Fire ground crew and firefighters at the areas of concern in the Hemel and Aarde Valley and near Escape Farm.
“The challenge faced in this area is the thick, dense alien vegetation which makes access difficult for pumps and water tankers to access. The gravel roads leading to the smouldering areas are mostly washed away.”
Thus far, approximately 1400 hectares of land has burnt and no structures were reported damaged.
Smoke can still be expected in parts of the Hemel and Aarde Valley and Karwyderskraal area.
