The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is calling for country plans to monitor progress against the Paris Agreement.

Speaking at the June UN Climate Meetings, in Bonn (SB60), today, Simon Stiell,  Executive Secretary of UNFCCC, said a dilogue on  enhanced transparency is well underway.

Stiell said although more than 1,100 experts from 150 countries have received training, more people will be taught about the new review processes and procedures.

This month, new Enhanced Transparency Framework reporting tools will be introduced, to  integrate tracking of greenhouse gas inventories, action and support.

It is done in partnership with Microsoft, to develop a new Climate Data Hub.

“Every country starts this process from a different place. But we can’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Nobody is expecting countries facing enormous human and economic challenges to submit a platinum-standard report the first time around.
I encourage you all to submit the best possible report you can, this year.”

Stiell also said reporting should not be perceived  as a burden, but rather as an opportunity to learn from data and to design more effective policies.
