Inclement weather has caused widespread power outages in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
Areas most affected are in Motherwell, Despatch, Coega and Kariega.
In a statement on Wednesday evening, Sithembiso Soyaya, Spokesperson of the Municipality, said “we wish to inform residents that we are aware of the ongoing power outages affecting several areas within the Metro. Due to the severe weather conditions, we are currently experiencing widespread disruptions in electricity supply.
The electrical emergency preparedness plan for the Electricity and Energy Directorate has been activated.”
He said the plan to prioritize the restoration of larger areas affected (High Voltage and Medium Voltage), includes keeping the network safe by de-energizing parts of it.
” Our emergency response teams are working tirelessly to restore electricity supply as quickly as possible. Due to the ongoing severe weather, restoration efforts are being carried out under challenging conditions.”
