The Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo renewed its membership with the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA).
WAZA informed its other members on Friday that the Zoo meets its animal welfare goals.
The Zoo is also now bound by global ethics to meet standards of animal welfare, conservation, environmental sustainability, education, research, business practices and human relations.
The WAZA also said the Zoo is subject to ongoing monitoring and improvement of animal care.
