The Department of Roads and Public Works in the Northern Cape, announced the temporary closure of the Kolong Bridge in Pampierstad.

This follows a flooded long weekend, which left hundreds displaced.

The Department said the water levels are still dangerously high, making the bridge unsafe for use.

Similarly, various roads were also closed to allow the water subside in Lichtenburg, in the North West province.

3 Main routes are affected, including the R505 Ottosdal Road, which is closed at Blydeville railway crossing.

The R52 Sannieshof Road is also closed at the Boikhutso railway crossing but the R503 Coligny Road is closed for a different reason, of stone throwing close to Agrico.

The Department urged motorists not to take โ€œshortcutsโ€ through suburbs like Blydeville/Boikhutso/Shukran, due to an ongoing protest.
