City Power has postponed the launch of its Phase One Electric Vehicle (EV) charging station.
The station was to be unveiled on Monday, by Dada Morero, Joburg’s Mayor and Loyiso Masuku, the Deputy Mayor, as well as Jack Sekwaila, the MMC for the Environment and Infrastructure Services Department (EISD).
Isaac Mangena of City Power, said in an update, the station is part of the power utility’s efficient, and low-carbon project.
“This initiative forms part of City Power’s broader Sustainable Energy Strategy, aimed at driving innovation, improving operational efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and modernising fleet management” he said.
The project cost the utility about R12.6 million, to set up its vehicle electrification initiative, which includes the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at its depots and sites.
Installation of chargers are expected to be rolled out at the Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) sites as well as those of bus company, Rea Vaya.
