Rand Water has urged Metros (the Cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Ekurhuleni) to cut water use.
This is so as to boost storage and avoid interruptions to supply.

In a display of the current situation, the Water Utility shared a graph below, illustrating where storage levels are, compared to consumption.

The yellow line represents pumped volumes of water, which are at 4906 Milliliters per day. This is the water that Rand Water produces and pumps.

The blue lines are the volumes that reach the customers, which are at about 4577 Milliliters per day.

The red line is the total storage.

The red line shows that storage is low which is a function of high water consumption. The lower the storage, the bigger the risk of water supply issues.

Last month, the water Utility mentioned its project to tackle water leaks, alongside Municipalities.
