The eThekwini jazz sessions, scheduled for Sunday, the 02nd March 2025, were postponed due to severe weather conditions forecast for eThekwini.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has upgraded the warning against severe thunderstorms to level 5.

The warning is applicable to the western and southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, with heavy downpours expected to lead to flooding, accompanied by excessive lighting, hail and damaging winds.

Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution and take the necessary precautions to ensure  their safety.

This weather warning comes a week after floods claimed 6 lives in Lamontville and other areas in the South of Durban. The search is on for the  seventh person, who is still missing.

About 160 affected people were affected by the  Lamontville floods and relocated to a temporary shelter.

The National Department of Human Settlements and the Municipality are currently in search of  suitable land to build houses for displaced families and those most vulnerable during severe weather.

Demolition has started in the transit camp where the affected flood victims resided.

The City also said about 10 140 families are housed in 71 transit camps in eThekwini.

According to the latest Human Settlements statistics, a total of 3 676 families were relocated with 2 224 units demolished. A balance of 7 916 families within 42 transit camps are still in the current backlog to be relocated.

The remaining transit camps are all planned to be relocated by 2027.
