Political parties staged protests against Eskom’s proposed hike of 40%, coinciding with public hearings planned by National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA), this week.
Demonstrations were mainly from Build One SA, the DA, Action SA, the ANC in the Free State and the Freedom Front Plus.
Among some of the vocal submissions rejecting the 40% hike, were NUMSA’s Spuy Sebotsa, Acting Regional Secretary, who presented the union’s position to NERSA.
The hearing in Durban had to be suspended when more people showed up, others part of a protest.
As a result, NERSA has published new dates for Gauteng and Durban.
New dates for hearings in Gauteng start on the 3 December 2024, Uncle Tom’s Community Centre, Kumalo St, Orlando West, Johannesburg.
4 December 2024: Gallagher Convention Centre, 19 Richards Dr, Halfway House, Midrand.
Dates and venue for Durban: 6 & 7 December 2024 Greyville Racecourse, 150 Avondale Rd, Greyville, Durban.
