Maintenance work of the Zwartkopjes and Eikenhof systems kick off on Friday, 13 December.

Rand Water said the maintenance project is designed to enhance system availability, reliability, and efficiency, during a low demand season.

Rand Water said in an update about the project “December is particularly suitable for such work due to the closure of industries and by extension, the temporary depopulation of Gauteng province as residents travel for holidays. This timing also allows for quicker system recovery once the maintenance is completed.”

The Zwartkopjes system supplies water to Berea, Parktown, Naturena, Orlando East, Orange Farm, Lawley and Ennerdale.

The Eikenhof system supplies to Randburg, Roodepoort, Soweto and Johannesburg Central.

The notice about the maintenance was issued to Municipalities 21-days ago, to allow adequate time
to implement contingency plans.
