Tyson the Rhino, drowned on Monday afternoon, Tala Game Reserve informed followers via social media.
“He unfortunately slipped off a dam wall into the dam. Rangers at the facility, including Lawrence, the Rhino Minder and some of our volunteers who were on the reserve at the time, tried their utmost to get him out, but unfortunately he drowned.”
The team at Tala, said it has been an extremely emotionally draining week.
Tyson was recovered from the dam on Tuesday by the police in Pietermaritzburg (SAPS PMB Search and Rescue Members).
He got his name from a ranger who found him
as a baby, after he was abandoned by his mom at just 2 days old.
His mom could not produce milk for him, when a decision was made at Waterberg Rhino to move him to a shelter.
