South Africa is host to the SADC Council of Ministers Preparatory Meeting, at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) in Pretoria, from 12 to 13 March 2026.

This emerged from a media briefing by Ronald Lamola, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, on Wednesday.

Speaking of current geo-political developments, Lamola said “South Africa’s non-alignment does not entail a preference for any geopolitical bloc. Rather, it represents our ability to engage all international partners and take positions on a case-by-case basis, guided by international law. We remain steadfast in our resistance to being drawn into great-power rivalries, prioritising instead, a global governance system that is fair and inclusive.”

He urged citizens travelling abroad to register with the South African Embassy/Consulate nearest to the destination they are visiting.

The list of contact details for our missions abroad can be found on the department’s website or the websites of the various South African Embassies/Consulates.

Ambassador Xolisa Mabhongo and Ben Fender, the Head of the Defence and International Security Department at FCDO, are expected to attend the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), to be held from 27 April to 22 May 2026, at the UN Headquarters in New York.

In other news, Ambassador L. Brent Bozell III, from the United States, in South Africa, who arrived two weeks ago, was summoned to Pretoria, after his remarks in the media.

Bozell reportedly said SA is insulting Donald Trump, in addition, that he wants “Kill the Boer” chant stopped, and the country to account for the murders of farmers and the expropriation of land policy.
