Ishaam Abader, South African Weather Service (SAWS) CEO, has warned that failure to implement early warning systems in the face of climate-induced severe weather events, will have dire consequences for communities.

He was addressing a SAWS community outreach engagement on weather awareness in Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, on Friday.

The community of Hammanskraal, north of Pretoria, attended a community outreach event organized by the SAWS, at a local hall.

This comes at a time when the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is emphasizing the significance of early warning systems to mitigate the risk brought by disasters.

The organization has been emphasizing “people centered early warning systems.”

According to Climate-Adapt, such systems are key elements of climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
