Primary and secondary schools are suspended in Malawi, ahead of the arrival of cyclone Chido, expected to make landfall in at least 15 districts.

Areas affected are in Balaka, Blantyre,Chiradzulu, Chikwawa, Dedza, Mangochi, Machinga, , Mulanje, Mwanza, Neno, Ntcheu, Nsanje, Phalombe, Thyolo and Zomba.

The cyclone has already left a trail of disaster in Mayotte, where it first killed at least 11 people and injured another 246 people, on Saturday.

The cyclone landed in Cabo Delgado in Mozambique, on Sunday morning, and has moved inland at a speed of over 200 kilometers an hour.
Although meteriologists say winds have died down, heavy rains continue to batter Cabo Delgado, Niassa, Tete and Zambezia.

There is severe flooding in urban areas, destruction of homes, land and public infrastructure.
IOM Mozambique said there is also a heightened risk of water bourne diseases.
The organization also said it is also taking measures to prevent and respond to sexual exploitation and abuse to protect affected communities.

The Planet Weather Consultancy said remnants of Cyclone Chido could bring heavy rains to Botswana on Friday.
The Department of Environment and Tourism in Botswana said it is closely monitoring the movement of the cyclone.
