Severe thunderstorms leading to heavy downpours, large amounts of small hail, strong damaging winds and excessive lightning, are expected over the North West, Gauteng, Highveld of Mpumalanga, the eastern and central parts of Free State, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the south western parts of Limpopo.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow level 2 warning for these areas.

SAWS has also warned against extremely high fire danger conditions in the southern parts of the ZF Mgcawu and the western parts of the Pixley Ka Seme District Municipalities in the Northern Cape, the Limpopo Valley and the southern parts of the Limpopo Lowveld.

A heatwave continues over the north-western and north-eastern parts of Kwa-Zulu Natal until Wednesday.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Electricity and Energy Directorate, said inclement weather and gale-force winds on Sunday evening, could lead to fallen poles, street lights, and trees potentially impacting power lines.
