Areas like Potchefstroom, received some 40mm of rain on Saturday, while the South Free State is getting its rain on Sunday.
A downside of the rain are road closures, due to localized flooding, such as the R34 between Hoopstad and Wesselsbron.
Sipho Towa, Chairperson of the Road Incident Management Services in the Free State, urged motorists to reduce speed and exercise caution when approaching flooded areas.
“Consider alternative routes if possible. More rainfall is expected later today, which may exacerbate the situation. Road users are urged to stay informed about weather forecasts and road conditions” said Towa.
Rain in parts of the eastern Eastern Cape, negatively affected electricity supply, causing a widespread outage in Gonubie and Greenacres, in the Buffalo City Municipality.
Eskom said on Sunday, the estimated restoration time of the multiple faults is unknown.
Technicians are on site to assess the situation.
Xolile Nqatha, MEC of Cooperative Governance in the Eastern Cape, said there were no major fatal crashes reported in the Province, due to inclement weather.
“This is an encouraging sign. We appreciate the discipline shown by motorists, and we urge them to maintain this positive trend as driving conditions deteriorate” said Nqatha.
A storm also hit parts of Danielskuil District, Kuruman Hills, in the Northern Cape.
Meteorologists at the weather service (SAWS) and the South African Weather Information Centre (SWAICSA) have warned against intensifying storms in east North-West, Gauteng, southern Limpopo and western Mpumalanga.
